What is End of Abyss?
End of Abyss is a sci-fi Metroidvania developed by Section 9 Interactive and published by Epic Games Publishing. It was announced at Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026. The game drops players into a sprawling underground compound where something has gone very wrong — broken machines, crumbling architecture, and hostile creatures fill the corridors.
Story
You play as Cel, a young combat technician sent into a dilapidated underground facility gone dark. The halls are falling apart, the machines are damaged, and the creatures that now inhabit the space are dangerous. As Cel pushes deeper into the complex, she works to uncover what happened to the facility and fight her way out alive. The story emphasis on a contained, claustrophobic setting and a protagonist uncovering hidden truths puts it squarely in the tradition of Metroid and Hollow Knight.
Gameplay
End of Abyss follows the Metroidvania structure: branching corridors that open up as you gain new abilities, gear upgrades that change what you can access, and combat built around learning enemy patterns. The sci-fi setting grounds the atmosphere in broken technology rather than fantasy, giving it a distinctive visual identity. Fans of Metroid Dread and Hollow Knight should find familiar structural DNA here.

Standard price is $29.99. PlayStation Plus members get a 10% pre-order discount through launch day.
Is End of Abyss on Game Pass or PS Plus?
Xbox Game Pass availability has not been announced. PS Plus members receive a 10% pre-order discount, but the game is not included in PS Plus at launch.
