What is Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2?
Published by Konami, this is the follow-up to Master Collection Vol. 1, continuing the mission of bringing the mainline Metal Gear Solid catalog to current platforms. Where Vol. 1 covered the early entries in the series, Vol. 2 moves into the PS3-era titles. The collection bundles three games plus bonus content into one package at $49.99.
What's included
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots — Solid Snake's final mission, following him across a war-torn world as he attempts to stop Liquid Ocelot from seizing control of global battlefield systems. MGS4 has been PS3-exclusive since its 2008 launch; this is the first time it's available on any other platform.
- Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version) — Set in 1974 Costa Rica, Peace Walker follows Big Boss as he builds and commands a mercenary unit called Militaires Sans Frontières. The HD version was previously released in the HD Collection but has never appeared on modern current-gen hardware.
- METAL GEAR Ghost Babel — Originally a Game Boy Color spin-off from 2000, Ghost Babel is a bonus entry for series completionists. Its inclusion makes this the first time it's been accessible on a mainstream modern platform.
- Metal Gear Solid: Digital Soundtrack Vol. 2 — A bundled digital soundtrack covering the games in the collection.
- Screenplay Books and Master Books — Supplemental reading material for MGS4 and Peace Walker, included digitally.
Why MGS4 matters
Metal Gear Solid 4 is arguably the most significant game in this package purely because of access. It launched exclusively on PS3 in June 2008 and never received a remaster, a PC port, or any re-release. For anyone without original PS3 hardware and a disc copy, it has simply been unavailable for nearly two decades. Getting it on five current platforms at once is the headline here.
