Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches October 22, 2026 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 for $49.99.
Release date and platforms
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort releases on October 22, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2 only. No release time has been confirmed. It's available digitally on the Nintendo eShop; physical availability has not been announced separately.
This is a Switch 2 exclusive — the original Nintendo Switch is not supported.
What is Nintendo Switch Sports Resort?
Nintendo is bringing back Wuhu Island — the beloved resort setting from Wii Sports Resort (2009) — into the Switch 2 era. Both developer and publisher are Nintendo. The game is a motion-control party title built around Joy-Con 2's updated controls, and it's the follow-up to Nintendo Switch Sports, which launched on the original Switch in April 2022.
The game lets you play as a Mii (the classic Nintendo avatars) or as a "Sportsmate" — resort-style characters you can customize.
Gameplay
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches with 12 sports:
- Tennis
- Bowling
- Archery
- Boxing
- Volleyball
- Table Tennis
- Basketball
- Golf
- Thumb Wrestling
- Prop Plane
- Skateboarding
- Power Cruising
Each sport uses Joy-Con 2 motion controls with varied control schemes tuned to the activity. Up to four players can compete locally. Joy-Con 2's improved motion fidelity over the original Joy-Con is a key selling point here.
Online play details haven't been confirmed, but a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online features when they are available.
Is Nintendo Switch Sports Resort on Nintendo Switch Online?
The game itself is not included in Nintendo Switch Online's library — it's a standalone $49.99 purchase. A Nintendo Switch Online membership will likely be required for online multiplayer, but Nintendo hasn't confirmed specifics yet.
