What is Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter?
This is a full 3D remake of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, the second game in the Trails in the Sky trilogy, originally released by Nihon Falcom in Japan in 2004 (and localized to the West in 2015). The "2nd Chapter" title distinguishes it as a sequel to the 2024 remake of the first game (Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter).
Nihon Falcom is a Japanese developer known for decades of dense, story-heavy RPGs — the Trails/Kiseki series is their flagship, spanning over a dozen interconnected entries across multiple story arcs.
Gameplay and story
The original SC was notable for being almost entirely a payoff game — it resolves the cliffhanger from the first Trails in the Sky and brings together character threads built over that entire game. Estelle Bright returns to the Liberl Kingdom searching for Joshua after his disappearance at the end of the first chapter.
The remake modernizes this with full 3D visuals (the originals were 2D sprite-based) and updates to the turn-based combat system. Specific changes to combat mechanics, added content, and quality-of-life features beyond what the 2024 first-chapter remake introduced haven't been fully detailed.
