Legendary Marvel Second Edition Lands This June With a Full Card Overhaul

Legendary Marvel is getting its first full reboot in 14 years. Upper Deck's Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game Second Edition ships in June 2026, and it is a rebuild, not a reprint.

Legendary is a cooperative deck-building card game set in the Marvel Comics universe. You build a team of heroes, recruit better cards into your deck each turn, and fight off a Mastermind like Loki or Doctor Doom before their Scheme wraps up. It first hit shelves in 2012, designed by Devin Low. The original sits at a 7.6 rating on BoardGameGeek across more than 13,500 votes, and it spawned a long line of expansions.

Here is the part fans are reacting to. Almost every card in the core set has been redesigned. About 250 of the 550 cards were rebalanced for power and flavor. Every hero now gets four different pieces of original art instead of reusing one image four times. The art runs to the card edges for a modern full-bleed look. A dozen artists worked on the new roster.

The lineup changed too. Spider-Man (Miles Morales) joins the core set as a playable hero, taking Deadpool's old slot. Deadpool still lives in his own Legendary set. Doctor Octopus shows up as a new Mastermind, backed by the Sinister Syndicate as a new Villain Group.

If you found the old game too easy, this fixes that. Core Masterminds are now double-sided, so you pick a normal or an Epic difficulty face for each villain. The original eight Schemes got rebalanced harder, and a ninth Scheme is new. Four and five-player games add a "Warmup Round" to stop villains escaping before anyone has built a deck. Solo players get roughly four extra turns before the deck runs out, plus two Henchmen starting in the city.

On where to buy it: this is a physical card game, so it is not free. The Upper Deck Store lists it at $99.99, with retailers taking pre-orders closer to $89.99. Estimated delivery lands between May and June 2026. It is for ages 14 and up and plays 1 to 5 players.

Should you buy it if you already own the original? If your group has played the 2012 set into the ground, this is the cleaner version of the game you already like. If you have never touched Legendary, this is the best on-ramp it has ever had, since the rough early-design spots are gone.
