Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is one of the highest-rated games of 2023, and it is now playable on both PS5 and PC.
Insomniac Games launched it on PS5 on October 20, 2023, and the PC port (co-developed with Nixxes Software) dropped on January 30, 2025 via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Both versions are $59.99 at standard price, with a Digital Deluxe Edition available for $10 more on PS5. The game has sold over 16 million copies on PS5 and another 700,000 on Steam.
You play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, switching between them across one connected story set in New York City. The split is not just cosmetic. Peter carries the Venom symbiote arc, which changes how he moves and fights as the story unfolds. Miles has his bioelectric abilities and a completely separate skill tree. The combat styles feel genuinely different, and that difference is what the community keeps coming back to debate. Reddit threads a year after launch are still full of "Peter vs Miles, who is more fun to play?" arguments, and the answers are never settled.
The Venom story is the centerpiece. Harry Osborn takes on the symbiote, and the way the game builds that twist drew near-universal praise from critics. The Metacritic score landed at 90 out of 100 across 152 critic reviews, making it Insomniac's best-reviewed game in nearly 20 years. Players gave it an 8.6 on the same site. The main criticism from reviewers was that the campaign felt shorter than expected given the ambition, and some players wanted more side content.
Beyond the story, the traversal is a genuine step up from the first two games. Web wings let you glide across the city at speed, and the movement system is smooth enough that some players spend sessions just swinging with no objective. The map is a full Manhattan and Queens, noticeably bigger than what came before.
Is it worth it? For action-adventure fans and Marvel fans, yes, with little hesitation. If you bounced off the first game because the combat felt shallow, this one adds more depth, though it is still built around fun over mechanical complexity. If you have a decent PC, the port is well-optimized and lets you play with mouse and keyboard or a controller. The PS5 version uses the DualSense haptics to good effect, which is a small but real bonus on that platform.
The one honest caveat: there is no DLC planned. Insomniac confirmed no additional story content is coming. What you get is the base game, complete as it is, with no live-service roadmap attached.
